--------------------------------

In Previous year 2025–2026 admission cycle, the selection process at Indian Institute of Technology Hyderabad Department of Design followed a four-round evaluation structure. The first round consisted of an Online Design Aptitude Test (DAT), where students appeared for the exam remotely, typically conducted through an online meeting platform. Candidates shortlisted from this round were then invited to the second round — DAT on campus, where they were required to visit the IIT Hyderabad campus and complete another design aptitude evaluation in person.

Following the DAT rounds, there were two interview stages. The first interview focused on the candidate’s performance in the DAT exams along with portfolio discussion, evaluating design thinking, problem-solving approach, and conceptual clarity. The second interview round was more comprehensive and centered on the candidate’s portfolio, past projects, academic background, and overall design journey, helping the panel understand the applicant’s long-term potential and creative direction.

However, for the 2026 admission cycle, the process has been simplified. This year, the Department of Design at IIT Hyderabad has reduced the selection process to two major rounds only. The first round will be an Online Design Aptitude Test (DAT), and candidates shortlisted from this stage will proceed directly to the final Personal Interview round conducted on campus. This final interview will include portfolio evaluation, discussion on past work, and overall candidate assessment, combining elements that were previously spread across multiple rounds.
