IIT Gandhinagar-M.Des (Previous Year Question Paper 2026-2027)


In 2026, Indian Institute of Technology Hyderabad introduced the Master of Design (M.Des) program for the first time at IDG Nagar. As part of the new admission process, an entrance-based selection procedure was introduced.

Applicants were required to submit their Statement of Purpose (SOP) within the application form during the specified timeline.

Below are the SOP questions that were asked as part of this admission process.

Note:

  1. Please write a paragraph in your own words answering the following questions. The answers to these questions will be evaluated and may conside

  2. Please refrain from entering special/unicode characters, as they will be filtered out from the paragraph.

  3. Question 2 asks you to attach images; you will be able to attach them once you press next.

1. Your Perspective on Design and Technology *

Choose one of the following statements and respond to it.

Explain whether you agree, disagree, or partly agree. In your response:

  • briefly explain your position

  • refer to one example from your experience, observation, or project

  • conclude with one question about design or technology that you are curious to explore in the future (Maximum 250 words)

Choose one statement:

"Design is not about solving problems; it is about asking better questions."

"Technology changes quickly, but people take time to understand it. Design helps bridge this gap."

"Many technologies are built by engineers but become meaningful only when they are designed for people."

"Sometimes the best design solution is not more technology, but simpler technology."

"The future will be shaped by people who can work across disciplines rather than within a single field."



2. Everyday Technology Observation *

Select one object from your everyday life that you consider a technology. This may include physical objects, digital interfaces, or technology-enabled systems that people interact.

Submit the following:

(a) Two photographs of the object taken by you, showing it in its everyday context of use.

(Please upload these photographs in the file attachment section.)

(b) A short critique discussing:

  • Function / Usage - How does it work? How do people use it?

  • Visual / Form / Interaction - What do you observe about its form, interface, or user interaction?

  • Ethical or societal implications - Does it influence behaviour, accessibility, privacy, environment, or social practices?

(Maximum 250 words)
